It has been awhile since I have posted because it has been a busy and wonderful couple of weeks!!
I went into labor a little after 2am on June 26th. I honestly thought it was going to be false labor just because I had been waiting so long and every time I thought I must be going into labor, it ended up being nothing :P I didn't even bother wake Doug up. Once the contractions seemed regular, I started timing them. Not being able to sleep anyway, I got up and started doing some chores I hadn't been able to do because of work the past three days. When Doug's alarm went off at 4, I went in and told him I was pretty sure I was in labor and we should probably get it checked to make sure before he left for work over an hour away! So we got ready and headed to the hospital. We got there a little before 5 and they got us into a room quite fast. The nurses that were there talked like they thought they would be sending us home :( My contractions were about 4 1/2 to 5 minutes apart and really weren't all that strong. The shift was ending at 7, so the nurses said they would just wait until the next shift to check to see how dilated I was. In the meantime, I laid down on the bed, Doug sat in the chair, and we waited. Around 7, the contractions really started coming on strong. I had always said I wanted to go as naturally as possible, no epidural, no pain meds, but at that point, I told Doug I didn't think I could do it! He asked if I wanted a nurse and I said yes so he ran out and got one. I was ready for an epidural or whatever they would give me, but they said they had to check first to see how dilated I was. The doctor finally came in around 8 and checked. I was almost 9cm!! I decided it was pretty pointless at that point to get anything. The nurse suggested I stand up instead of lay down and that helped with the pain a lot! They finally let me start pushing a little after 10 and our beautiful son came into the world at noon! Tre was 9lb 13oz, 22 1/2in long. So so in love with him!!!
Soon after delivery, I started feeling dizzy and thought I was going to pass out. They took the baby and handed him to Doug and started me on IV fluids and tried to get my bleeding under control. I was very dehydrated and ended up losing a lot of blood so was on the IV until Friday with the fluids and a blood transfusion on Thursday. We thought we might end up staying in the hospital an extra day because I was stuck in bed until Thursday night, but then the nurse told us she had noticed Tre seemed to be breathing harder than he should be. So they took our perfect boy for an x-ray and some lab work and found that he had pneumonia! I did not understand how that could be, but we were obviously willing to do whatever was necessary to get him well!! They put him on an antibiotic for a week. Actually two antibiotics, one three times a day and the other only once a day. So we were stuck in the hospital that much longer. They put an IV in Tre's ankle :( that was not fun seeing at all! They had a hard time finding his veins because they were so small and he was dehydrated as well. The IV only lasted that night. They were able to get one in his arm the next day, but that one only lasted for I think one dose of his antibiotic. Friday night, an anesthesiologist was able to get an IV in his right ankle that lasted all the way until Wednesday afternoon!! They opted to just give him his antibiotic by a shot instead of trying to put another IV in, as he only had 3 doses left. I was kind of glad. It was nice to be able to carry him around without him attached to some machine! He had been on fluids the entire week, just to keep his veins plumped up so the antibiotic would go in without any problems.
Looking back, the week in the hospital was definitely helpful! If we had gone home at the normal time, I would've been absolutely losing it because of how he was eating. It was the 3rd night we were there before he finally started really nursing. And it was after that that he really seemed to improve. But being in the hospital that long gave us the extra time to get used to him with the nurses right there if we needed anything or even just had a question about something. And the nurses were awesome! So helpful!! They kinda became family, staying there that long and seeing the same ones every day. We are going to go back and visit them every now and then.
Doug was amazing the entire time! He doesn't like hospitals so he wasn't sure if he could stay there. But once Tre was here, he couldn't leave. He took the rest of that week off from work and was right there with us basically the whole time. He waited on me hand and foot <3 (which was great because I couldn't even get out of bed until Thursday night). He did have to go back to work on Monday, I was sad to see him go :( but then Thursday was the 4th so he had Thursday and Friday off again! I was so glad he got to bring us home!! We finally left the hospital around 10 Thursday morning. It was great, so good to be outside and able to move around! I hadn't left that wing in 8 days!! Tre fell asleep as soon as we headed home.
When we got to our house, Doug brought him right inside and showed him his room :) It was so good to be home. Doug had done laundry and kept everything cleaned up so that I didn't come home to a mess!! <3
Tre slept for almost 6 hours straight that night (in his bassinet, even). Scared the crap out of me!! Lol, I woke up and realized it had been that long and woke him right up :P He was fine, I fed him and he went back to sleep. He does sleep good at night. At least 3 hours, I feed him and he goes right back to sleep. Such a good boy <3 He does love being held though :) I've been trying to have him lay in the pack'n'play or his bouncy seat throughout the day so he isn't held constantly. Kinda hard to get much done when I am holding him all the time too :P He seemed to like the pack'n'play today. It vibrates and plays music and he was quite content for awhile in it.
His first check-up was yesterday. My mother went with me, thank goodness. I never realized how many hands were necessary for a simple dr appointment!! Tre has gained some weight since we left the hospital and everything else looked good. The appointment took way longer than I thought it would though. I think mostly because we were waiting for the doctor. We went back to the hospital afterwards for his hearing test. (They couldn't do it while we were in the hospital because the antibiotic he was on could've affected his hearing.) The nurse said that he did great on the test! I got some flowers and a card for the nurses there, they appreciated them.
Ok, I am going to try and post some pictures, hopefully this isn't too long :P
